Blix: Don't assume Saddam had weapons of mass destruction

Chief UN weapons inspector Hans Blix today warned against jumping to the conclusion that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, just because there is a long list of outstanding questions about its weapons programme.
Saddam Hussein's regime might have hidden weapons, but it also might have destroyed them, he told the Security Council in New York.
The failure to find illegal weapons after visiting more than 230 suspected sites over the past 11 weeks has become a major issue in Washington, London and other international capitals, since Saddam's possession of banned weapons was the main American and British justification for invading Iraq.
